#2 Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About The World - And Why Things Are Better Than You Think

Completed reading Factfulness this morning. It is a book authored by Hans Rosling (along with Ola Rosling & Anna Rosling).  In this book the author uses empirical evidence to show that the world has made significant progress in many areas regarding which usually negative beliefs and misconceptions prevail. He urges us to become aware of and overcome our instincts (10 types) that hinder us from - making informed decisions & developing realistic understandings about the current world.  At the same time he warns us to not become complacent and expresses his concern about the risks of a global pandemic, financial collapse, world war, climate change and extreme poverty due to adulteration of information.  He thus encourages the readers to be humble, critical and curious while producing, distributing or consuming information and pleas everyone to educate the upcoming generations about the same.  In short I felt like the book offers some relief, about th...

#1 Sapiens: A Brief History Of Humankind

After many weeks of postponing, I successfully pulled off an all-nighter and completed reading this interesting book - Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (by Yuval Noah Harari). This book is all about how humans became the dominant species on earth and the challenges we might face in the future. I personally gained new perspectives and hopefully some wisdom too.  There's a rhetorical question in the book, at the end of the afterword, for the reader to contemplate. To that I just want to say I agree with the author... Yes, there is nothing more dangerous than a powerful being that is not accountable to anyone and that does not have a clear understanding of its own goals. The book mentions that humans have the power to shape the world in profound ways, but we also have a history, or perhaps an inherent nature, of being destructive and irresponsible.
