#1 Sapiens: A Brief History Of Humankind

After many weeks of postponing, I successfully pulled off an all-nighter and completed reading this interesting book - Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (by Yuval Noah Harari). This book is all about how humans became the dominant species on earth and the challenges we might face in the future. I personally gained new perspectives and hopefully some wisdom too.

There's a rhetorical question in the book, at the end of the afterword, for the reader to contemplate. To that I just want to say I agree with the author... Yes, there is nothing more dangerous than a powerful being that is not accountable to anyone and that does not have a clear understanding of its own goals.

The book mentions that humans have the power to shape the world in profound ways, but we also have a history, or perhaps an inherent nature, of being destructive and irresponsible. So we need to have a better understanding of - what we want as a species and how to achieve it in a sustainable/ethical way. Hence, it is important for us to develop the institutions and systems that can hold us accountable and help us use our power wisely.
